Wilson Park transformation continues

The City of Belmont’s transformation of Wilson Park is one step closer, with works on the Zone 2: Heart + Playground set to commence in March.

To mark this significant milestone, a ceremony was recently held on-site, bringing together key stakeholders and community members.

Included in the proceedings was a smoking ceremony, led by Noongar Elder Brett Collard and Rohan Collard, to prepare the space ahead of construction, reflecting the City’s commitment to respecting First Nations culture within the precinct.

City of Belmont Mayor Robert Rossi said the commencement of works was an exciting step in bringing the community’s vision to life and making Wilson Park a more vibrant, active space.

“We know Wilson Park is valued, and the Heart + Playground will create more opportunities for play, connection, and outdoor activity.

“As Mayor, I want our younger residents to feel engaged, included, and valued. This space will give them more opportunities to be active outdoors, connect with others, and be part of our vibrant community,” said Mayor Rossi.

Wilson Park Zone 2: Heart + Playground was designed through extensive community consultation and will deliver an exciting and inclusive space for all ages and abilities.

The design incorporates places to gather, nature-inspired elements, accessible play features, and a connection to local heritage.

The Wilson Park Zone 2: Heart + Playground project is jointly funded by the Australian Government, the Western Australian Government and the City of Belmont.

The Australian Government has committed $2 million to the project through its Investing in our Communities Program.

Lotterywest has also committed $2 million to the project in recognition it will raise a community sense of belonging and strengthen social connections.
